It’s been a long-time dream for my husband and I to stay at this hotel. We watched the Shard getting built from the window of our flat in Canary Wharf wondering how it would be to see London from the tallest building in Europe.
Since our annual tradition is to celebrate my husband’s birthday wining and dining in restaurants with stunning high views, being able to spend a few days in the Shangri-La hotel felt like it was very much meant to be!
Everything from the hotel grounds, to our room on the 37th floor, the wonderful dining, and especially the private pool area on the 52nd floor was absolutely incredible!
It’s so serene and beautiful looking across London, I loved just sitting down with a glass of champagne and taking it all in.
We spent a couple of amazing days wining and dining in the Shard’s restaurants and exploring London, and though time definitely tends to fly by whenever we stay away, we came back revived, refreshed and ready for work!

Convenient location
We love being able to take a walk to a nearby cafe in the morning, or do a bit of shopping or simply explore the area which is why this hotel is a perfect choice. A mere 2-minute walk from London Bridge railway and tube station. It’s also a mile from the Tower of London.
London Bridge is home to some of the world’s most eminent art galleries. Just a few steps away, Borough Market is a haven of street food stalls, artisanal bakeries, glorious produce and arguably the best coffee in Britain at the Monmouth Coffee Company (perfect for a coffee lover like me!)
The unforgettable view
If you read my blog on a regular basis, you may already know that I love admiring high views wherever I travel, like NYC World Trade Center Observatory and Heron Tower in London.
Occupying the 34th to 52nd floors of architect Renzo Piano’s iconic Shard, the Shangri-La showcases breathtaking views of vibrant London. It almost felt surreal to watch life in the city unfolding along the River Thames.
Restaurants and bars
The restaurants and bars at Shangri-La Hotel offer the best in contemporary cuisine with views to match.
With the choice of 3 unique dining venues at Shangri-La, Ting, Lang and Gong I can guarantee you will get spoiled (breakfast in TĪNG. is a once in a lifetime experience!).
GŎNG is the highest bar in London on level 52, perfect for sunset cocktails and late-night drinks in chic surrounds, with spectacular views of London’s skyline.
If you get bored (I wouldn’t have thought so!) you can head to one of the Shard’s very own restaurants – Aqua Shard, Oblix and Hutong that offer fine-dining and unrivalled views of London.
Revitalize & rejuvenate
We even visited the Shangri-La fully equipped gym which is located on level 52, with floor-to-ceiling windows providing panoramic views of London’s skyline. What more would you need to fully enjoy your workout?!
The hotel also has the Skypool, exclusive escape for hotel guests.
Relaxing spa treatments are available either in the comfort of a room or in one of the spa residences. We didn’t have enough time to actually enjoy any of the treatments but I’m sure they are fantastic, maybe during our next stay.
Rooms and suites
Each room is truly unique and features floor-to-ceiling windows with stunning city views. It literally took my breath away when we walked into our room and saw the amazing panoramic view of London. A fusion of marble and silk, blended with contemporary light wood adds an unforgettable touch of elegance and style.
The hotel also offers a choice of spacious suites that come with a personal butler service. The three Signature Suites, including the Westminster Suite, the London Suite and the Shangri-La Suite, offer the ultimate indulgence and have uninterrupted views across London’s landmarks. What’s not to like?!
It was a truly fantastic stay and the perfect opportunity to unwind and enjoy our beautiful city London.
