Lace, is undeniably one of the biggest trends this season. It has always had a romantic and feminine allure and its peek-a-boo effect can take you from looking innocent to provocative within seconds. There really isn’t any other fabric that can suggest so many different visual assumptions.
Lace has been big for so many years now and it’s safe to say now that this is the trend to update your wardrobe with, the trend you will wear for years to come. From full on lace dresses to chic peek-a-boo trousers and even lace accessories, this trend is not short of inspiration.
What’s better than lace? Tiered lace! This PrettyLittleThing lace dress has the essence of summer written all over it. Light, airy, and crisp!
I believe that fashion today is less about buying the latest and greatest, but more about individual style. Mixing new and old, high and low, luxury and street – whatever combination you’re comfortable with and confident in.
This midi dress is such a sweet statement piece for date night and holiday parties and I love restyling it every single time I wear it (my favourite part about fashion!) either with lines and colour accents or by adding different accessories.
3 fabulous ways to pull off lace.
1. Embrace past influences
Rather than worrying how you’re going to bring lace into the 21st century, why not take your inspiration from historical trends? My most favourite, a Victorian-style lace blouse, complete with a frilled collar and cuffs, modernised with a faux leather pencil skirt is the perfect desk-to-dinner piece. Add a swipe of red lipstick and voila.
2. Layer your lace with ruffles
No matter what season, I feel most comfortable in layers, the extra layer serves as a great way to stay cosy and comfortable.
The best part (because of the ‘concealing’ fit around the waist) – layers can be perfect for those all-you-can-eat nights (i.e. summer festivals and holiday dinners).
The elegant layered ruffle also adds a fun flare and makes any piece a little chic darling.
3. Baby steps
If a full on lace dress or blouse just isn’t you, then try incorporating this decorative fabric into your wardrobe by way of a lace trim or subtle detail. If you favour simple pieces, this can offer a good way to add a point of interest to you look.
