In a bright red hue with a tiered silhouette and high neckline, layers of ruffles, incredible movement… the perfect top for spring and summer!  And actually, also for fall and winter (can’t wait to restyle it in a few months). It’s great with shorts, skirts and jeans. You name it, it’s truly one of my favorite shirts.

I recently wrote a blog post about lace and its timeless beauty and elegance. Today I take my fashion journey to the romantic sea of ruffles. This top by Y.A.S covered in them it’s perfect for special date nights when romance is called for, and it adds plenty of swishy appeal to your wardrobe too!

As they are back (not the Gremlins the ruffles!)…It started with flutter sleeves, then graduated to peplums and now, ruffles are out in full force for Summer 2017. Ruffles were one of the key trends at fashion month forming all-over cascading tiers, adoring many off-the-shoulder necklines, covering hemlines, sleeves, skirts, blouses and even jackets and pant legs that you will see in my upcoming blog posts. There was plenty of frills at shows like Michael Kors or Mulberry and those don’t limit its existence to just clothing but covers our bags, belts and even shoes. Sure, we all know that ruffles are very romantic and add feminine charm to our wardrobes, but they also can add a sense of drama that makes for a perfect evening look.

The most pressing question about ruffled fashion is how you wear it?

With confidence!

Ruffle detail has the ability to turn the most basic and plain of pieces into something extraordinary – you can add a ruffle detail to the sleeve of the most basic white t-shirt and the effect will be romantic and eye-catching. You can also experiment more wildly with layering (another trend of the moment) ruffled tops over plain dresses, exaggerated sleeves (as presented in my recent blog post “Morning meets evening: Bond style Wool cape & Midi Dress With Structured Fluted Sleeves”) for a more dynamic look that is also incredibly office-appropriate.

Ruffles act as their own accessory, so there’s no need to cover yourself with jewels. If they’re snaking around your neck or cascading down your shoulder, pull your hair back in a sleek style so it doesn’t interfere. These go nicely with pumps or sandals in a complementary—yet not matching-color.

I kept the rest of my look simple with plain black Zara shorts, classic Louboutin Vinodo patent leather shoes, Swarovski earrings and a bracelet. I also wore a pair of Mulberry flip flops purely for comfort as that’s what one should do when you go for a walk into the fields.

I’m madly in love with these Louboutin shoes, timeless class. Soft round toe that adds a flirtatious curve to this classic patent court shoe, V-cut vamp and a signature handmade bow detail. It has an understated elegance.  This style is also available in Nude colour and because I have been obsessing about this particular design I have also purchased a pair of Louboutin patent pumps (also available in Nude)!

After discovering the world of Louboutin shoes only about 6 – 7 years ago I became obsessed with collecting them. The leg-lengthening effect, the final polish to complete an outfit, the quiet sophistication of the red sole, I absolutely love a great pair of Louboutin!  

I’m a perfectionist at heart and don’t like to disappoint others, so as you can imagine, I was pacing back and forth in my walk-in wardrobe trying to figure out what to do with the pairings. I wanted to create a day look that really highlighted the glamor of the red sole, but at the same time, has a casual chic vibe.  I do hope you enjoy this outfit.

    I love this outfit. Early this year, there was a trend for bell sleeves. I got a few pieces of them and now I think it is trending towards tops with ruffles and floral printed maxi dresses. I’m loving it! Thanks for the style inspiration!

    I like this outfit with the closed pumps. I don’t think I’d wear it with the type of open toe shoes you used here. However the top is gorgeous and I do think it’s a staple of the season.
