I’m a big believer in a quick getaway when life gets a little crazy and you feel tired, uninspired, and find yourself in a general state of meh. For me, a staycation is a really perfect way to clear my mind, get away from it all, and a chance to indulge in all the things I love best without spending too much time on actual travel.
Choosing the right hotel is really important for me, I’m always on the lookout for a new staycation favourite, and as of late, the Down Hall Hotel has been the one for me. Aside from the hotel itself, I tend to look at the surroundings as well. I love being able to go for a nice long walk and admire the countryside.
The Down Hall Hotel is a perfect choice to have a lovely weekend away to unwind and forget about everything. Dating back to 1322, this impressive Italianate mansion is a truly historic setting. The hotel’s luxury interiors, ornate ceilings and abundance of natural daylight make for an experience like no other. Down Hall Hotel is truly one of England’s most established country house hotels.
The property is just gorgeous, the food is delicious (I don’t know about you guys, but I can’t imagine a proper staycation without a breakfast in bed experience), and the spa is amazing.
Let’s not forget about the 110 acres of surrounding woodland, parkland and landscaped gardens, which are perfect for a morning walk. The traditional English Afternoon Tea in the hotel’s historic lounge or Ibbetson’s tearoom is a perfect way to spend your afternoon. I also really enjoyed the dinner in The Grill Room restaurant, which serves modern English cooking prepared with fresh ingredients from the hotel’s own vegetable garden. During the summer months Down Hall can also prepare a delicious picnic for you to take out and enjoy in their stunning grounds.
For those that enjoy more active stay as I do, the hotel offers (apart from gymnasium), 2 hard court tennis courts, Giant Chess set or a game of good old fashioned croquet.
