In the middle of the busy city, Kenza is the perfect place to get lost for a few hours. It’s the place where I let myself go free of any work-related thoughts, I give myself permission to be carefree, to play, and to go crazy.
Though I definitely have a few favourite restaurants in London, Kenza is particularly special because it offers the most amazing authentic experience of Middle Eastern cuisine, and is inspired by fabulous Arabian, Turkish and Moroccan interiors. I’m talking Moroccan lamps and furnishings with Middle Eastern mezes, tea and tagines, plus belly dancers perfectly complemented by alluring Arabic music rhythms.
Kenza means ‘treasure’ in Arabic. Dedicated to refinement and luxury ,it’s a world away from the City above. A contrast of experiences, a glamorous bar to lounge in, chic alcoves for private dining and the restaurant. Let’s not forget the dazzling entertainment, and the sensual belly-dancing performances when night falls.
A softly lit spiral staircase, strewn with rose petals, leads diners to three shimmering areas separated by ornate ironwork — the lounge bar, the restaurant and the private dining room.
Snug alcoves provide intimate settings for romantic dining.
I like to start my evening with a classic champagne cocktail in the lounge just to unwind after a busy day and admire the exquisite deco.
Usually after half an hour or so I move to the restaurant ready to start my dinner.
I have to admit that I’m definitely a creature of habits, and for me the grass is not greener out there. This means that I just like to revisit the same places over and over again, whether it’s a holiday destination or a restaurant. This also applies to the food I order. My favourite in Kenza is the feast number 5 menu, how precise haha. It offers a variety of mezzes followed by an incredibly delicious lamb shoulder that literally melts away in your mouth.
This is usually the time the dazzling belly dancers make an appearance. Probably my favourite part of the evening. The dancers perform around the tables to traditional music and this compliments the authenticity of the restaurant further, through offering a true insight into Middle Eastern culture. Sometimes they invite customers to join in and teach the moves. Guess what I usually do….
And when you think you can’t possibly eat any more, a mint tea is served with a selection of Arabic sweets, baklawa, fruits and Turkish delight. I can never resist the dessert, absolutely delicious and the selection of flavours is seriously amazing.
Love at first sight, I still cannot decide what it is I like about Kenza the most: the delicious food, or simply the wonderfully relaxing atmosphere, or the lovely ambiance of the place. Perhaps, it is all of the above, but one thing is for certain, as far as favourite dining places in London go, Kenza is definitely it for me!
One thing I would recommend is making a reservation, because the restaurant tends to get quite busy.
