LONDON IN 6 HOURS

Tower Bridge, London

Whether you are visiting London for the first time, coming back for a special occasion or like myself taking opportunity to explore my city, you’ll discover a city full of unforgettable landmarks and exciting things to do.

Can you see London in 6 hours? Unlikely, but with some good planning you can definitely get to see and enjoy a number of top attractions.

A few weeks ago we decided to change our cosy ‘weekend at home’ routine and we ventured out to enjoy some of the magical sights and attractions of London. For those who live in London or any other city, you probably know how hectic day to day work can overtake our lives and how easy is to start taking a lot of things for granted. Frankly we never get spare time to just go out for a walk and explore the beautiful sights of London. It was a fantastic feeling to have a day to ourselves enjoying this incredible city.

We started our adventure quite early on a Saturday morning with a breakfast in a breathtaking Duck & Waffle restaurant.

Duck & Waffle Restaurant, London

Duck & Waffle is conveniently based in the city where we both work and it’s one of those places we love going back to. Who wouldn’t, based on the 40th-floor with floor-to-ceiling windows! It has a cocktail bar and a restaurant named after its signature dish: fried duck egg and mustard maple syrup which – like everything else at D&W – can be enjoyed 24 hrs/day. There’s also a dining room for private hire if you ever need a place to celebrate. Just look at the view…

We truly got to relax, taste delicious food and capture some beautiful memories.

Duck & Waffle Restaurant, London

The deco in this place is unbelievable! I highly recommend it however bear in mind that it takes some effort to get a table. Reservations are accepted up to 2 months in advance and Guys you need to plan ahead. It’s a very popular and highly desirable restaurant.

Following the breakfast we had a quick stroll through the city admiring its beautiful buildings like Gherkin and the Lloyds Insurance heading towards the St Paul’s Cathedral.

We were very lucky with the weather. There was a cold nip in the air, a few big puffy clouds, blue skies and light that was crystal clear but not a drop of rain.

We made our way to Covent Garden located in the West End London’s main theatre and entertainment area.

It’s such an elegant, car-free Piazza, home to fashion stores, crafts at the Apple Market and the Royal Opera House.

We love to just wander, and that’s exactly what we did. Sometimes we set out for a particular place, but I find in London, it’s best if you just let yourself explore. If you’re hopping in a taxi from one spot to another, you miss all the little hidden gems. There is no better shopping than in London, as you never know what you might find in an old vintage shop in a small alley.

COVENT GARDEN, LONDON

Next stop was Regent street which is a major shopping street in the West End of London.

REGENT STREET, LONDON

As we strolled downtown, we were excited to see the usual Christmas makeover with garlands of lights down the length of the road the grand shopping stretch gets. It looks very impressive at night.

REGENT STREET, LONDON

We couldn’t miss a trip to Hamleys, the oldest and largest toy shop in the world and one of the world’s best-known retailers of toys set over seven floors.

I’m just a tiny bit obsessed with bears and Hamleys is like heaven for me!

HAMLEYS STORE, LONDON

What could be even better than Hamleys…how about Harrods! Harrods, the world’s most famous department store with men’s and women’s designer fashion, luxury gifts, food and accessories.

HARRODS STORE, LONDON

How much I love this place (my husband does know!!). I can spend hours wandering and admiring all designer gems.

After a good amount of walking, we worked up an appetite for a snack! We went to the Champagne bar for a glass of champagne and some cake, which gave us a good buzz to keep going.

Completely famished after a couple of hour in Harrods, we planned to stop for a lunch somewhere, but we couldn’t find a spot that looked good. So we jumped into a taxi and headed to the place called Ognisko in South Kensington that was recommended by a number of people.

OGNISKO RESTAURANT, SOUTH KENSINGTON, LONDON

On this occasion we didn’t venture to the opulent white dinning room but a hotel-style bar for a menu of upscale Polish and Baltic dishes was equally satisfactorily!

After lunch, we made our way over to the Buckingham Palace in the City of Westminster which is the London residence and administrative headquarters of the reigning monarch of the United Kingdom.

We ended our trip with some fun in the Green Park (fair to say it was just me having fun jumping around and throwing leaves in the air!).

GREEN PARK, LONDON

We were also hoping to have enough time to go back to Canary Wharf but with winter short days it started already getting darker and colder and we decided to made our way back home. Canary Wharf is a financial area (where we both used to live and work) filled with magnificent skyscrapers like the One Canada Square. Canada Square Park also hosts summer concerts and a winter ice-skating rink but I’m sure we will have plenty of occasions to go back there. In meantime, you can have a look at some photos from our favourite restaurant Plateau in Canary Wharf here or another great dining experience Gaucho here.

This trip was short & sweet and made us excited for another stroll across London soon!

You saw a lot in just 6 hours! ๐Ÿ™‚ When we visited London Hamleys was the top of our list, I think there was some kind of launch happening as it was packed, with lots of staff cheering when the doors opened, very strange. We stayed away from the crowds and explored the rest of the store, it’s definitely a must-see in London I think! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hope that you are having a nice start to your week and you had a good weekend! We had a quiet one here.

This post is bringing back memories from my recent visit to London a few months ago. What a fab city! We did everything you mentioned above with the exception of Duck & Waffle. We definitely need to add that to our list the next time we visit. Covent Garden is one of my favorite areas in London – it is so charming and adore the shopping there. Harrod’s is a must for sure, but definitely super large and overwhelming. Thanks for sharing these spots and tips! xoxo, Christine
