Sharp tailoring is sweeping across the world but don’t you worry, this trend is not aimed only at corporates anymore. The new suit is as playful as it is powerful and works just as well in the office as it does in a bar or an elegant evening event.
Wear them together or separately, a great suit will take you from a day at the office to cocktail hour and everything in between. Modern suits come in a variety of silhouettes to ensure you aren’t venturing too far from your own personal style, including culottes, flares and high-waisted cigarette pants to flatter those with a more feminine aesthetic. And when it comes to a power/party suit, why not really make a statement in a bold color (red or pink are my preference) or a sumptuous texture (velvet is perfect for the festive season).

Keeping your professional wardrobe current and fun can seem like a full-time job on its own! I hope these few simple tips will help you to keep your wardrobe fun and dated without spending a fortune.
Mix fabrics
While traditional suits will always be considered to be office classics, try mixing fabrics to create a more non-traditional look. Choose one dominant (tweed, leather, or linen) and one more neutral fabric (cotton, denim, wool), and play with different combinations for some great looks. Remember not to mix and match fabrics that are extremely different from one another, like velvet and leather, for example, as these just won’t look harmonious at all.
Mix colours
I’m guilty of having a sea of traditional business suits focused around black, brown, grey and navy. These are most definitely great colours to have, however these are just basics. Try combining different colours (this also goes for myself), such as black skirts/trousers with a red jacket, as well as using different colours within the jackets and skirts/trousers themselves. This will keep the wardrobe more fun and will introduce a modern appeal in your attire.
Bold Prints
You can inject even more fun to your traditional suit by matching one piece in a neutral colour with another one in a bold print. Your accessories should match the solid-toned pieces to keep the focal point on the bold print.
Skinny Pants and Peplum Jackets
I really adore skinny pants combined with a fitted well-tailored or a peplum jacket. This figure hugging style is not for everyone but there are options for a looser fit that still falls into this trend category.
Peplum jackets are a great trend for someone who wants to accentuate hips or simply step away from a more traditional silhouette. I’m yet to experiment with peplum jackets, however I do have a number of peplum tops and dresses that I can’t get enough of. It can be an attention-grabbing trend, therefore I would suggest to opt for basic colors initially to tone it down.
