Surrounded by the glistening Aegean Sea and the resting place of one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, Rhodes boasts a rich culinary heritage. A trip to Greece equals an exciting journey through Greek gastronomy.
Greeks love eating out and sharing impossibly big meals. The authentic food options are curated by blending oil, fresh vegetables, meat, and fish. Whether you are looking for a fine-dining experience or for some cheap eats, restaurants in Rhodes have a lot to offer when it comes to culinary experiences.
The Greeks dine late with some restaurants not opening for dinner until after 7pm. You will only need reservations in the most popular places and these can usually be made a day in advance.
There’s something to suit everyone’s tastes, including regional specialities, and Michelin-starred fusion.
Here’s a list of my favourite restaurants, so you can enjoy the culinary delights Rhodes has to offer.
Golden Olympiade
Golden Olympiade, one of the best fine dining restaurants in Rhodes. Combination of attentive service and consistent high quality of food (including my fave sous vide) have always been important to me, hence why I keep going back to this beautiful restaurant year after year!
You will find Golden Olympiade under the blessed shade of two imperious ficus trees, in the Medieval town of Rhodes. Choose any of the gates to access the old town, find Efdhimou Square, just off the main Socratous Street, and just a few metres away from the archaeological museum.
MYTHOS ALL DAY RESTAURANT
Conveniently located in Lindos square Mythos offers a great variety of Greek dishes in combination with one of the best views of the Acropolis and Harbor of Lindos Village.
This is the place to be if you are planning to visit Lindos! Friendly and very attentive staff, unique relaxed ambience and we were made incredibly welcomed by the owners.
The organic meat, chicken, beef and pork, are from Mythos own farm in Lardos and fish is fresh and caught in Lindos area! The flavours are so delicious that you can’t settle for less than a 3 course meal!
TAMAM – SPEAKS ONLY THE ‘LANGUAGE OF FOOD’
This is THE place to visit and most definitely my favourite restaurant. At TAMAM nothing is done quickly, because nothing is pre-ready!
Tamam is widely considered one of the best restaurants not just in Rhodes, but in all of Greece. The restaurant is quite small and it doesn’t take bookings in advance so you should prepare yourself for a long wait (unless you are super lucky!). However, even queuing is something you should experience! You will get treated to a glass of Sangria or some other fabulous drink while the owner keeps you entertained with his funny banter.
Trust me even the “wait” is worth the wait!
The restaurant boasts a mixture of Greek, Mediterranean and international influences, and the chefs use the freshest of ingredients to produce heavenly food. Everything on the menu is absolutely delicious and the portions are huge … just as I like them.
SARRIS TAVERN
Perfectly located in the Old Town of Rhodes, a pretty location, particularly at night with an ambiance that emulates the relaxed, opulent experience of dining.
The food is reasonably good, without being particularly spectacular with its unique and authentic flavours using pure, local ingredients, without additives. Only local olive oils are added to the food in order to produce the authentic and quality traditional flavour.
This place is definitely worth a visit, you will love its friendly and very attentive staff and its unique relaxed ambience. Sarris tavern will treat you to the full sensory experience, so you can simply focus on the taste buds!
PORFYRA GREEK RESTAURANT
Named after the luxury non-fading dye used by Greeks to colour ceremonial robes, this rooftop restaurant offers a colourful palette of authentic exceptional gourmet Greek and international cuisine.
Situated at the luxurious Atrium Platinum hotel and set in an idyllic location with fantastic views out over the Aegean Sea, this restaurant is a must experience!
