Throughout the decades, feather outfits have proved to be indulgently glamorous, unapologetically sensual, and just… fun. What’s not to love?

This Old Hollywood trend has been experiencing a particular renaissance as of late and the options have become more fresh, colourful and seemingly endless.

My all over faux feather one sleeve mini dress in pink is one of my favourite party finds adding a refreshing zing to my winter wardrobe. The dress is the perfect fit, and the beaded detail allows you to really fit it to your body. At first, slipping into bird-like silhouettes might seem intimidating and just so extra, but you’ll find that the flouncy detail adds that oh-so-perfect extra oomph of style. Head-to-toe Barbie-toned power-dressing is very much in this season.

I could have gone for plain accessories but since we’re talking ‘party season’ I opted for a matching feather clutch and pink bow sandals.

Generally speaking, with feather dresses you usually want to keep your accessories on the cooler side like silver shoes and jewellery, or even clear or white heels. If the dress is from the sunset palette like this beautiful gem from ASOS — pink, yellow, orange — you can try matching or black accessories depending on what complements your skin tone.

I would also recommend that you keep your hair pulled back, either in an updo, chignon, or a sleek centre part to keep the excitement on the beautiful plumages. And when in doubt, always go super minimal with your makeup look and accessories to balance out the busyness of the dress.

So…if you’re looking to update your party wardrobe with some 2022 fashion trends, I definitely recommend giving feathers a try. There’s a reason folks that feathers are flocking to the frilly, flouncy, and fun style as of late!
