It’s not just vintage fabrics from shearling to corduroy that designers are obsessed with this season, but 1970s colour palettes, too. I’m feeling so inspired by the beauty of autumn colours right now and with its rustic feel of stunning golds, browns and yellows, terracotta is ideal for the season of autumn.
Rust happens to be one of those colours that is universally flattering so if you haven’t worn this colour before now is the time! I don’t think I’d realized the full potential of the terracotta colour trend until now! A perfect addition to any wardrobe with its versatility and the “wear year round” qualities.
The best bit about this trend? Anything goes, from head-to-toe tonal looks to a statement tan shoe or bag. It suits all skin tones so really anyone can wear it, its earthy tones bring a flattering autumnal warmth to all complexions.
Due to the variety of shades of this colour trend, it’s up to you what end of the spectrum you go for. From tarnished gold and polished bronze, to burnt orange and warm praline, you can adapt the look to your style.
If you’re still considering adding these dusty hues to your sartorial repertoire like I have with this gorgeous Lipsy Rust Wrap Coat, here are 3 tips to keep in mind.
Go tonal
One way to have the colour make its own bold statement is by way of a monochromatic look. Pair rust with a brighter shade of orange or alternatively tone it down by teaming it with a chocolate brown or pastel pink for an Instagram worthy look.
Pair it with blue
Rust it’s one of the top shades of the season and it’s more versatile than you might think. It looks fantastic with blue, white, check or even print. In the same way that pale pink looks lovely with red, light blue paired with a rich shade of orange create an ideal Fall pair.
When you’re not sure if a colour matches rust, think about the outdoor world. If you can’t picture your colour of choice being found in nature, then it probably doesn’t go together.
