Who has not heard about the Peggy Porschen Instagram-worthy bakery as sugary-sweet and pretty as her cakes? You must have seen delicious pink photos popping up like mushrooms all over Instagram featuring amazing cupcakes or slices of delicious multi layered cakes.
The Peggy Porschen company dates back to 2003 (2010 for the Peggy Porschen Parlour in London’s Belgravia). Her cakes not only reflect the life-long love of baking but also celebrate beautiful craftsmanship, inspired by romance, femininity and fashion. They also come with the celebrity seal of approval. Her cookies and cakes have graced many A-list events including parties for Madonna, Sting & Trudie Styler and Gwyneth Paltrow. Both Stella McCartney and Kate Moss chose Porschen to design their wedding cakes, and it was the centrepiece of choice at Elton John’s White Tie & Tiara Ball.
Being the pinkest bakery in London, Peggy Porschen is a bit of an Instagram sensation and I wanted to see if it lives up to the expectations.
As we arrived, the place was fairly busy and waitresses in pink shirts were running back and forth, carrying trays loaded with cupcakes and slices of multicoloured cakes, all presented on the cutest pink plates. It was mesmerising watching girls immediately, as their order arrived, starting to take endless pictures of each other holding their cups.
Entering the place made me feel like a princess for the day stepping through the beautiful fairytale pastel pink doors into a world of freshly baked delights.
The candy-coloured, pastel palette of the place is so sweet, pretty and feminine, and it makes everything feel a little more summery and fresh, regardless of the rainy weather outdoors!
The interior of Peggy Porschen is very small which does not help with the queue building up outside.
The first thing you’ll see (as you walk in) is a large cabinet filled with cupcakes, cookies and layered cakes. Exquisite cupcakes and sweet delights are accompanied either by a cup of tea, coffee or a flute of Laurent Perrier Cuveé Rosé Champagne.
Customers can take some of the ingredients for themselves too, with Peggy’s range of homemade jams and marmalades for sale and let’s not forget about the exquisite wedding cakes and delicate sugary confections.
Most of the clients are tourists and instagrammers and it was an experience to see some of them getting into the toilet to get changed and then do actual photoshoot sessions!
The service is very quick and friendly. What’s more important is that it doesn’t feel like you have to rush eating your fabulous cake just because there are people waiting outside.
It’s a truly pink and unique experience so if you get an opportunity, get your camera ready and head to the Instagrammer’s paradise to experience the pretty pastels, sparkling cakes, the artisan teas and the beautiful exterior displays.
The cake shop is conveniently just a stone’s throw from the designer labels off Sloane Square.
