AIMING FOR PERFECTION

This may sound like a cliché, but it most certainly isn’t – confidence plays an enormous role in our pursuit of contentment and happiness. Whether we have fashion magazines and impossible beauty standards they impose to blame, but the result is that most of us, at one point or another, experience a plummet in the self-confidence department. The cause of that can be found in numerous factors such as a breakup, a negative comment – from the big to tiny things, they can all result in lower levels of self-esteem. The good news is, getting your mojo back is not as difficult, time or money-consuming as you might think. With just a little help from your spouse and some guidance, you can definitely go back to your old perfect self, and without breaking the bank too.

Starting from the top

When you get up in the morning, you should be pleased with the face looking back at you in the mirror. If there is anything in that reflection making you unhappy, take steps to change the situation. For instance, if acne is an issue you’re battling, there are amazing products custom-made for your issue and skin type. You just need to find the ones that work for you and then put them to work. Everyone’s skin is different, so the point is to find just the right group of products that will comprise your skincare arsenal, and bring that skin to spick and span shape. Luckily, there are amazing skincare products that cater to different needs, so you won’t have any trouble finding the one that’s just right.

Your body is a temple…

…and it should be treated as such. When you’re not satisfied with the shape your body’s in, the worst thing you can do to yourself, physically as well as mentally is to try and lose weight in highly unhealthy and potentially very damaging ways, such as starving yourself or going on insane diets. Weight loss is a process and it should be approached with both determination, perseverance and good sense. Try to eat as healthy as possible; you need to keep your immune system in its prime, because there’s no beauty in an unhealthy one. Turn to glorious superfoods that are full of nutrients, antioxidants and vitamins and that will make eating healthy a joy instead of sacrifice.

If you don’t have the time to hit the gym, there are numerous exercise programs waiting for you on YouTube that you can do from the comfort of your own home, even using your couch as support. Still, we’re aware that there are certain areas that are more stubborn than others – like the flabby tummy that seems to be immune to exercise. That is why non-invasive treatments such as body sculpting are a great investment. They’re far cheaper than liposuction and a tummy tuck, there are no incisions and no healing time is required. All you get are amazing results that will make you feel immensely better in your own skin, especially if these problem areas are a great source of insecurity for you.

Small things, huge difference

Once you’ve gone through your transformation, it’s time to complete it with some small pleasures that will tie your whole new look together. First comes a bit of makeup to bring out that radiance and rediscover the new you. A bit of highlighter, some mascara and that shade of lipstick that perfectly complements your skin tone are enough to make a huge difference in how you see yourself. Throw in a pair of new jeans (boyfriend jeans look great on everyone, even if your body isn’t ‘perfect’, a pair of ankle boots, an amazingly sexy yet appropriate wrap dress, a pair of classy black pumps, and treat yourself to that biker leather jacket you’ve been pining over for so long. The best part is, all of these garments can be found at fast fashion retailers like H&M, and you can rebuild your entire wardrobe while still being on a budget. Finally, make an appointment to get your hair done, and that will be the final step of your transformation. This final step is usually ‘reserved’ for those looking for a change after a soul-crushing breakup, as it can mark a new beginning, at least to Harpers Bazaar, but even if a breakup isn’t the cause of your blues, follow the words of Coco Chanel who said that a woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life. It’s truly amazing what getting rid of even just a few inches can make you feel empowered and brand new, not to mention that you feel like a supermodel when you step out of the salon.

The point is, when life gets you down, the worst thing you can do is sit and wallow; if you want things to change, you’re going to have to be the one who changes them, and as you can see, it’s not that hard, especially if you just take it one day at a time. Now go, turn those lemons into margaritas and get your mojo back, you deserve this.

I agree! Do not wallow in self-pity but do something! When my pessimistic inner voice shows up, I start writing down my feelings–that helps. Nice post!

Great post! Yes I do agree that a lot of it is down to confidence and we do need to take steps to rebuild it (if we are down) rather than dwell on what makes us unhappy. Thank you for sharing xx
