Our Amazing Honeymoon
Today I wanted to share a rather special post with you, a photo story from our amazing Honeymoon.
We got married in August last year however due to very busy work schedules we had to delay our Honeymoon for 10 months. We only came back a few weeks ago and it already feels like years since we off boarded the plane. As I have so much to share with you I’ve decided to do it in two posts so you won’t get too bored reading through pages and pages of text and photos.
We all know, the Honeymoon is THE holiday, hence we are quite happy to splash out a bit more than usual and go to places we have been dreaming about all of our lives. At least that was the case for us. We always wanted to go to the Bahamas (it was on my bucket list for as long as I can remember!) and because it was our Honeymoon after all we decided to extend this special occasion and add in a few days in Miami and another week in Cancun.
The Virgin Atlantic Lounge
This is where our journey began. We arrived in true Honeymoon style at the Heathrow airport Virgin Atlantic private entrance, and were greeted by the Virgin Atlantic team who immediately took care of our luggage. We whizzed through the Private Security Channel, beating the queues. Seamless, stress free and calm, it took literally 2 minutes.
We headed straight to the Virgin lounge for a nice breakfast with a glass of champagne as one does at 9 in the morning! Then straight to the heart of the Clubhouse the lively bar area where we continued sipping champagne cocktails. For those who love a bit of pampering the Virgin Atlantic lounge also offers SPA services so you can get your hair and nails done just in time for the holiday, and how about a last minute massage?
As much as we enjoyed the lounge it was time to board the plane and continue this wonderful journey. I probably made it sound a little bit like some sort of a chore however… For the first time ever, as we boarded the plane we were asked to turn left and directed to our 1st Class (Upper Class) seats.
We enjoyed our flight immensely, from the preflight champagne, to the restaurant quality meals, we were spoiled for choice in our Upper Class cabin. And then when we got a bit tired the Upper Class seats turned into one of the longest fully flat beds at the touch of a button. Ahhhh bliss.
Our first stop was the Bahamas, and we stayed at the Sandals Royal Bahamian (on Nassau). I strongly recommend this resort if you are looking for a relaxed holiday with your partner. Global Gourmet dining at 10 specialty restaurants, and an award-winning Red Lane Spa, River Pool Swim-up Suites with butler service, two pristine white-sand beaches, and an exclusive VIP airport transfers in a Rolls-Royce or Mercedes-Benz for butler guests – these are just a few of the perks we got to experience.
After a couple of days of solid sunbathing we took a complimentary ferry to the resort’s own Sandals Island for exotic offshore adventures. It really was a private paradise and is just 1-mile away from the main resort.
We spent days debating about what we wanted to see and do rather than sunbathing and constant fine dining. While my husband is happy to spend hours in the sun I’m more of a FOMO (fear of missing out) person. I have to go everywhere, see everything and do everything. At the end, we decided to go on a trip around the Island with a private guide rather than taking several different excursions, and I have to admit that was the best decision ever. It saved us a lot of time that my husband then utilized on the beach sipping cocktails, and at the same time we got to see and know a lot about the Bahamas history, traditions and culture during our customized trip. I highly recommend a private tour anywhere you go (we did a similar trip in Antigua). It’s hard at times to decide between excursions and then with a lot of them you only get to do or a see just a snapshot of the place you are staying at. It’s worth spending a bit more money on a private tour and the pros definitely outweigh the cons!
Just a snapshot of a few of MANY Honeymoon outfits.
We departed the resort in true Honeymoon style, in the fabulous Rolls-Royce.
We flew from the Bahamas to Miami where we stayed at the ONE Hotel South Beach that has an amazing rooftop pool and bar (Leonardo DiCaprio was there two weeks ago).
We only stayed in Miami for a couple of days, just enough to do some shopping, sunbathing and explore the nightlife options. We went to the Liv club at the trendy, opulent Fontainebleau Hotel club where DJs spin at parties that attract celebs & VIPs. Great music, deco and an amazing crowd of people. The place is currently undergoing an extensive multi-million-dollar renovation and will be ready to open its door in Fall. I can’t even imagine how they can improve something that was already perfect!
As I’m really into fitness I had to explore the Spartan gym that is the only one of its kind in the world.
And then it was time to pack up an get ready for the next and final leg of our Honeymoon.
