Once upon a time there lived three bears. These are not the same bears who know Goldilocks though … oh no. These bears live here in England … and get into lots and lots of mischief.
One sunny day … the 3 bears were just waking up from a long nap. Honey (the naughtiest bear) said … "What shall we do with ourselves today brothers?" Water (the sensible bear) said … "You always try to get us into mischief Honey … why don't we let baby Custard choose?" Custard is the youngest of the 3 bears and is always copying his older brothers … which sometimes leads to BIG trouble if he copies the naughty bear Honey!"
Custard didn't really know what to choose though as he couldn’t decide between his favourite things. Like most little boys or girls … Custard really enjoys … Playing Hide and Seek, Making a Mess (with Honey), Watching TV, or Going Exploring. "I'm not sure brothers … there's lots of things I like doing" … said Custard. "Why don't we do something for mummy and daddy so there's a nice surprise waiting for them when they get home from work tonight" … said Water. This is often the sort of thing Water would say and do because he's the kindest of the 3 bears.
"Boring!!!!" … said Honey. "Mummy and Daddy have lots of nice things every day". "They get to drive cars, they can stay up really late, and don't forget all of the yummy ice cream and other grown up food they get to eat" … said Honey. "Like what?" asked Water. "I don’t know Water" growled Honey. "I'm a bear not a grown up silly". Water sighed … "huuuffffffff" "Anyway - I've decided what we can do brothers" … said Honey with a naughty look in his eyes. "Let's do some exploring and get into an adventure". … and before Water and Custard could change his mind … Honey was off and packing some essential items that all bears carry when they go on an adventure. He's such a naughty little bear.
So what do you think bears take on an adventure? Well each bear is very different to the next one. Water likes to pack spare clothes, a map and compass, and a ham sandwich (he doesn't like Marmalade). Custard likes to pack a picture of mummy and daddy, a ball to play with, and a torch (because he's a bit afraid of the dark). Honey on the other hand … will try and take everything … and most of the time he tries to take things that he'll never need (just like his mummy does on holidays !). Anyway … this time Honey decided to pack … a set of keys (that he found), a book about frogs, 2 packets of crisps, some of mummy's special chocolate (because he knows where she keeps it), a football scarf, 6 pencils, 3 socks, AND ... one of daddy's golf clubs. What a silly bear.
"I'm ready" said Honey … which was about 20 minutes after Water and Custard had finished getting ready. "Finally" giggled Water. "OK … what's the plan then Honey?". "Well I thought that we could pretend we're famous explorers" said Honey … "and then we could climb a tree on the garden to search for faraway lands". Water and Custard both thought that this actually sounded like good fun … and also that Honey wouldn’t be able to get into too much trouble if they kept to the garden and didn’t sneak into the neighbour's gardens!
The weather looked fabulous. The sun was shining, the sky was blue, and the birds were all singing in the trees. The 3 bears were very excited to go on their adventure and had already started to imagine what they might find in the trees at the bottom of the garden. Just as they were reaching up (on each other's shoulders) to open the door … Custard's ball fell out from his bag and rolled across the Kitchen. "Waaaaah my ball" cried Custard. "Don’t worry little brother" … said Water. "I'll run over and get it". "OK Water thank you" … said Custard. "It's my favourite ball so I hope it isn’t lost". Water watched as the ball bounced across the kitchen, past the oven, under the table, and through the door that lead to the washing machine room. Water quickly ran after it and disappeared into the washing machine room … but shortly after there was an almighty … "CRASH".
Honey and Custard ran towards where the ball and Water had disappeared and when they arrived they found Water lying upside down on a big pile of clothes. "Daddy will be in trouble for not having finished these" … thought Honey in a very modern politically correct stereotype of 21st century household chores allocation. "Water … what happened?" … asked Custard". "Are you OK?". "I slipped on some of the clothes Custard … don’t worry though because the I landed in the big pile and it's really soft so I'm Ok. I found your ball too … it was right at the top. Here you go". As Water was handing Custard back his favourite ball they noticed a small cupboard next to the washing machine that they hadn't seen before (mainly because bears don’t like washing clothes …that's for mummy's and daddy's). "What's that" … asked Custard. "Move out the way you two … let me inspect this" … said Honey bravely.
"WOWWWWW!!" … shouted Honey. "Come and look at this you two. It's amaaaaazing!". Water and Custard scampered over the pile of clothes and went to stand next to Honey. None of the 3 bears could believe what they were looking at. After 2 years living in the house with mummy and daddy … nobody had ever noticed what was at the back of the cupboard. It was a MAGIC door … just big enough for 3 little bears. "Honey be careful" … suggested Water. "It's OK I do this sort of thing all the time" … said Honey … which he didn’t … he just wanted to sound brave! And with that Honey ran towards the door to see where it went.
